Position Summary

Our client is seeking a detail-oriented Construction Technologist to support commercial MEP construction projects in Richmond, VA. In this role, you will use advanced construction technology, including Robotic Total Stations, iPads, and 360-degree cameras, to perform precise layout work and site captures on active jobsites.

The Construction Technologist will help identify accurate locations for pipe and duct hangers, sleeves, anchors, floor openings, and underground services. This position works closely with field teams and the QA/QC CTM to support efficient installation, accurate documentation, and continued exploration of innovative construction technologies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

A Day in the Life

• Mark ground at jobsites for underground services to be installed.
• Perform point layout on jobsites using Robotic Total Stations.
• Lay out locations for field teams to install anchors, sleeves, pipe hangers, duct hangers, floor openings, and related components.
• Review contract drawings, shop drawings, and 3D models to support accurate field layout.
• Visit jobsites weekly to perform site captures using an iPad and 360-degree camera, such as Ricoh Theta Z1.
• Upload site capture data to the current web-based program.
• Collaborate with the QA/QC CTM to evaluate and explore new construction technologies that may improve field operations.
• Communicate layout information clearly to field teams and project stakeholders.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation related to layout and site capture work.
• Maintain strict adherence to company safety rules and jobsite safety requirements.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience as a Plumber, Duct Person, Electrician, or in a related construction trade.
• Ability to review and understand contract drawings, shop drawings, and 3D models.
• Experience using construction software, such as Bluebeam, Field Link, or similar tools.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
• Ability to perform precise field layout work in active construction environments.
• Ability to use technology and construction layout tools effectively.
• Ability to work safely and follow all company and jobsite safety requirements.
• Ability to communicate professionally with field teams, project teams, and other stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently and manage assigned jobsite responsibilities.
• Strong organizational and documentation skills.
• Willingness to travel to jobsites on a regular basis.

Preferred Qualifications

• Journeyman’s license.
• Experience using Robotic Total Stations.
• Experience with iPad-based site capture tools and 360-degree cameras.
• Familiarity with Ricoh Theta Z1 or similar site capture equipment.
• Experience working on commercial MEP construction projects.
• Prior experience supporting QA/QC, layout, or virtual construction teams.
