Commercial HVAC/Refrigeration Service Technician

💰 Pay Range: $29.00–$43.00/hour (DOE)

About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Commercial HVAC/Refrigeration Service Technician to support customers throughout the Newport News and Hampton Roads area.

This is a combined HVAC/R service position. The technician will primarily service commercial refrigeration equipment, including reach-in coolers/freezers and walk-in coolers/freezers, while also performing commercial HVAC service and repair.

Some rack refrigeration work may be available, but rack experience is not required and will represent a limited portion of the workload.

The ideal candidate has at least 5 years of commercial HVAC/R experience, with 10+ years highly valued, and is comfortable troubleshooting both refrigeration and HVAC equipment independently.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain commercial refrigeration and HVAC systems
• Service commercial refrigeration equipment including:
  • Reach-in coolers and freezers
  • Walk-in coolers and freezers
  • Commercial refrigeration systems and controls
  • Limited rack refrigeration systems
• Troubleshoot and repair commercial HVAC equipment and associated controls
• Diagnose electrical, mechanical, refrigeration, and controls-related failures
• Perform preventative maintenance and equipment inspections
• Test components using appropriate diagnostic instruments
• Repair or replace compressors, motors, controls, electrical components, and other defective parts
• Verify proper equipment operation following repairs
• Maintain accurate service documentation
• Communicate professionally with customers, dispatch, and service leadership
• Maintain safe work practices and comply with OSHA and company requirements

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of commercial HVAC/R service experience required
• 10+ years of HVAC/R experience highly preferred
• Strong commercial refrigeration troubleshooting and repair experience
• Experience servicing walk-in and reach-in refrigeration equipment
• Commercial HVAC service experience required
• EPA Universal Certification required
• Rack refrigeration experience preferred but not required
• Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting abilities
• Ability to read wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical documentation
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Strong communication and customer service skills
• Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
