Plumbing Service Specialist (Sales & Project Development)

Location: Richmond, VA

Job Type: Full-Time

Salary Range: $75,000-$115,000 (DOE)

Position Overview

The Plumbing Service Specialist serves as the technical expert for commercial plumbing service projects, helping customers identify capital improvements, repairs, replacements, and lifecycle solutions.

This position plays a critical role in project development—from customer consultation and estimating through project turnover and ongoing operational support.


Key Responsibilities

Business Development & Customer Support

  • Partner with customers to identify plumbing service and capital improvement opportunities
  • Develop project scopes that align with customer needs and budgets
  • Support the sales team throughout the project development process
  • Participate in customer presentations and technical discussions
  • Assist with contract negotiations and change orders
  • Build long-term customer relationships through trusted technical guidance

Estimating & Project Development

  • Perform field surveys and site evaluations
  • Develop detailed project scopes and estimating strategies
  • Prepare:
    • Equipment selections
    • Quantity takeoffs
    • Cost estimates
    • Proposal packages
  • Create sketches and drawings for permitting when required
  • Solicit subcontractor and vendor pricing
  • Coordinate crane, rigging, and specialty equipment requirements

Project Support

  • Conduct project turnover meetings with Operations
  • Review project scope, schedules, materials, and labor requirements
  • Support field teams during project execution
  • Mentor installation personnel and provide technical assistance
  • Utilize field technology platforms and project management software
  • Assist customers with capital budgeting and asset planning initiatives

Technical Leadership

  • Become the subject matter expert for plumbing service offerings
  • Review estimates prepared by other team members
  • Recommend value-engineering solutions
  • Identify opportunities to improve estimating accuracy and operational efficiency

Qualifications

Required

  • 10+ years of experience in Plumbing, HVAC, Mechanical, or Electrical industries
  • Experience in both:
    • Commercial Service Operations
    • Sales or Estimating
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Commercial plumbing systems
    • Mechanical systems
    • Service project development
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to travel throughout assigned territory
