Contract Duration: 8 months

The Opportunity

We are hiring an experienced Mechanical Quality Control (QC) Lead in Avon, Indiana for an 8-month contract supporting a major mission-critical data center construction project. This position focuses on quality control inspections, testing, documentation, and commissioning readiness for commercial HVAC and plumbing systems.

Our client is seeking a hands-on mechanical construction professional who understands how HVAC and plumbing systems are installed, inspected, tested, and turned over on complex construction projects.

If you have a strong mechanical construction background, experience leading QC inspections, and the ability to identify installation deficiencies before they become costly problems, this opportunity deserves your attention.

What You'll Do

As the Mechanical QC Lead, you'll oversee quality control activities for HVAC and plumbing installations throughout construction, testing, and commissioning preparation.

  • Inspect mechanical installations: Verify chilled water piping, condenser water piping, CRAH/CRAC units, air handlers, fan walls, ductwork, hangers, seismic bracing, insulation, domestic water, and drainage systems.
  • Review construction documents: Interpret mechanical drawings, shop drawings, submittals, specifications, isometrics, and P&IDs to verify installation requirements.
  • Witness system testing: Observe and document pressure tests, hydrostatic tests, flushing, cleaning, and pre-cover inspections.
  • Manage quality deficiencies: Identify nonconforming work, issue NCRs, track corrective actions, and coordinate punch-list closeout.
  • Coordinate with project teams: Work directly with mechanical foremen, subcontractors, general contractors, owner representatives, and commissioning agents.
  • Support commissioning: Assist with Level 1–3 commissioning checklists, equipment startup verification, and mechanical system turnover.
  • Maintain QC documentation: Keep inspection reports, test records, deficiency logs, and turnover packages organized, accurate, and audit-ready.

What You Bring

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of HVAC and/or plumbing construction experience.
  • At least 2 years in a quality control, inspection, or lead position.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret MEP construction drawings, isometrics, and P&IDs.
  • Working knowledge of IMC, IPC, UPC, SMACNA, and ASHRAE standards.
  • Experience conducting mechanical construction inspections and documenting installation quality.
  • Familiarity with commissioning processes, system testing, and turnover documentation.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to coordinate with multiple construction teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience on data center, mission-critical, or large-scale mechanical construction projects.
  • Journeyman or master mechanical/plumbing trade license.
  • Quality management certification such as USACE CQM or ASQ.
  • OSHA 30 training.
  • Experience supporting commissioning and mechanical equipment startup activities.

Why It's Worth It

  • $45–$48 per hour, based on the stated compensation range.
  • $120 per diem for each day worked.
  • 8-month contract assignment on a mission-critical data center construction project.
  • Opportunity to apply mechanical QC expertise across complex HVAC and plumbing installations.
  • Hands-on involvement with construction quality, system testing, commissioning readiness, and project turnover.

This opportunity is particularly relevant for experienced Mechanical QC Inspectors, HVAC Quality Control Leads, Plumbing QC Inspectors, and Mechanical Construction Quality Leads who want to apply their technical expertise on a complex data center project.
