This Katy-based estimating role is a foundational hire for that expansion: you won't be joining an established department so much as helping build one, with real influence over how BMD's U.S. estimating function takes shape.

THE ROLE

BMD is seeking a Civil Estimator with 5–7 years of heavy civil estimating experience to join its growing Texas team out of the Katy office. You'll take ownership of cost estimates and bid packages for civil site development, earthwork, utilities, roadway, and related infrastructure work, partnering closely with preconstruction, operations, and business development as BMD builds its pipeline of public and private civil projects across the greater Houston region.

COMPENSATION

$100,000–$130,000 base salary, commensurate with experience, plus performance bonus potential. This range reflects current market benchmarks for heavy civil estimators with 5–7 years of experience in the greater Houston/Katy market and will be finalized based on the selected candidate's background and qualifications.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

•    Prepare complete, competitive cost estimates for civil construction projects, including earthwork, grading, storm/sanitary sewer, water distribution, paving, and site utilities.

•    Perform quantity takeoffs from civil plans, specifications, and geotechnical reports using estimating and takeoff software (e.g., Agtek, HCSS HeavyBid, or similar).

•    Solicit, evaluate, and level subcontractor and supplier quotes to ensure accurate, complete bid coverage.

•    Analyze bid documents, addenda, and scope for risk, constructability, and cost drivers, flagging gaps or ambiguities before bid day.

•    Develop and maintain unit cost databases, historical cost data, and productivity benchmarks to sharpen future estimates.

•    Participate in pre-bid meetings, site walks, and owner/GC clarifications to fully understand project scope and site conditions.

•    Assemble and submit bid packages, ensuring compliance with owner requirements, bonding, and qualification criteria.

•    Support the transition from estimate to award, including buyout, scope reviews, and handoff to project management/operations.

•    Help establish estimating standards, templates, and workflows as part of building out BMD's U.S. civil estimating function.

•    Track market conditions, material pricing, and subcontractor/labor availability across the Houston/Katy market.

WHAT YOU BRING

•    5–7 years of civil estimating experience with a heavy civil, site development, or utility contractor (Texas/Gulf Coast market experience strongly preferred).

•    Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field, or equivalent hands-on estimating experience.

•    Strong quantity takeoff skills and working knowledge of civil estimating/takeoff software (Agtek, HCSS HeavyBid, Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, or equivalent).

•    Solid understanding of earthwork, grading, drainage, utilities, and roadway construction methods and costs.

•    Ability to read and interpret civil plans, specifications, and geotechnical/survey data.

•    Sharp analytical skills with strong attention to detail and comfort working against tight bid deadlines.

•    Clear, confident communicator, able to build relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, GCs, and owners.

•    Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; familiarity with Bluebeam and standard bid management platforms.
