Job Description
The Director of Project Operations is responsible for the overall leadership, execution, financial
performance, and strategic growth of Envirotrol's Service Project businesses across North and South Carolina. This role provides oversight of all project operations, project management teams, and project delivery functions while ensuring exceptional safety, quality, customer satisfaction, and
financial performance.
The Director of Project Operations serves as a key member of the leadership team, partnering closely with Sales, Service, Estimating, and Executive Leadership to drive profitable growth, operational excellence, and organizational scalability. This position is responsible for developing project management infrastructure, improving operational efficiencies, creating centers of excellence, and building high-performing teams capable of supporting Envirotrol's long-term growth objectives.
The successful candidate will possess strong operational leadership, financial acumen, strategic thinking, and a proven ability to develop people while driving accountability and results.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Leadership & Project Execution
- Provide overall leadership and oversight for Service Project Operations across all branches.
- Direct and support Project Managers, Project Estimators, and related project resources to
- ensure successful project delivery.
- Assign projects and allocate appropriate, project management, commissioning, and field
- resources.
Oversee all phases of project execution including:
- Pre-Bid Support
- Post-Award Planning
- Project Execution
- Project Closeout
- Ensure estimating, engineering, and project execution standards are consistently applied.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on operational efficiency, productivity,
- project delivery, and customer satisfaction.
- Establish project management best practices and create Centers of Excellence across the
- organization.
- Develop and implement project recovery plans when necessary growth.
Financial Performance & Business Management
- Maintain responsibility for the overall financial performance of the Service Project
- businesses.
- Drive achievement of:
- Operating Income Goals
- Gross Margin Targets
- Cash Flow Objectives
- Backlog Growth
- Indirect Cost Management
- Labor Productivity Improvements
- Lead monthly Cost-to-Complete reviews and forecasting processes.
- Ensure projects are accurately forecasted, billed, and collected.
- Identify and mitigate projects fade through proactive project reviews, coaching, and
- operational discipline.
- Manage asset utilization, working capital, billings, collections, and project profitability.
- Assist in the development of annual operating plans, budgets, forecasts, and strategic growth initiatives.
Service Project Infrastructure & Growth
- Develop and implement scalable Service Project management infrastructure across all
- branches.
- Partner with branch leadership to build project management capabilities while maintaining appropriate financial investment levels.
- Establish standards, processes, and tools that improve consistency and profitability across all project operations.
- Support expansion initiatives through organizational development and operational readiness.
Business Development & Strategic Growth
- Collaborate with Sales and Operational leaders to support revenue growth, backlog expansion, and customer retention.
- Identify opportunities to increase profitability through change orders, scope management,
- project execution improvements, and strategic customer engagement.
- Support Go/No-Go decision-making processes for Service Projects.
- Evaluate strategic acquisition opportunities aligned with company growth objectives.
- Develop and maintain relationships with customers, contractors, consultants, subcontractors, and industry partners.
- Partner with Sales teams to ensure complete project scope development and accurate cost
- estimates.
Customer Experience & Relationship Management
- Promote a customer-focused culture centered on quality, responsiveness, and long-termpartnership development.
- Resolve customer satisfaction issues and drive corrective actions when needed.
- Create processes that strengthen and leverage customer relationships across multiple geographies and business units.
- Ensure successful project execution that supports customer retention and long-term growth.
Leadership & Talent Development
- Recruit, develop, mentor, and retain high-performing project management professionals.
- Build succession plans and leadership development programs for project operations teams.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and operational
- excellence.
- Coach teams in:

- Conflict Resolution
- Financial Management
- Customer Communication
- Project Recovery Planning
- Collaborate with leaders throughout Envirotrol and CSUSA operating companies to leverage
- best practices and organizational synergies.
Safety, Quality & Compliance
- Champion a culture where safety is the highest priority.
- Ensure compliance with all company, customer, local, state, and federal safety
- requirements.
- Maintain adherence to all legal, contractual, and ethical standards.
- Promote quality execution standards throughout all project operations.
- Ensure subcontractors and project teams consistently follow safety and quality protocols.
Executive Leadership
- Serve as a key member of the Envirotrol leadership team.
- Collaborate with Executive Leadership to align project operations with overall business
- objectives.
- Provide operational reporting and strategic recommendations to the President and
- executive team.
- Lead initiatives that improve organizational effectiveness, scalability, profitability, and long-term growth.
WHAT WILL CATCH OUR EYE:
- Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business Management, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in project management, construction
- operations, service operations, or related leadership roles.
- Minimum 5 years of leadership experience managing teams and developing talent.
- Demonstrated success leading large-scale HVAC, Mechanical, Controls, Building
- Automation, or Service Project organizations.
- Strong financial and business management experience with responsibility for P&L
- performance.
- Experience leading organizational change and operational improvement initiatives.
