Service Manager – Commercial/Industrial HVAC

📍 Location: Raleigh, NC

💼 Job Type: Full-Time | On-Site

💲 Salary Range: $80,000–$100,000 + Service Manager Bonus Plan

📌 Reports To: Branch Manager

Position Summary

We are seeking a results-driven Commercial HVAC Service Manager to lead a team of HVAC Service Technicians in delivering high-quality service, repair, preventative maintenance, and retrofit solutions.

This position combines field leadership, operational management, financial accountability, technician development, and customer relationship management. The ideal candidate is a hands-on HVAC leader who understands both the technical and business sides of commercial service operations.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, train, coach, and mentor Commercial HVAC Service Technicians
  • Plan, assign, and review daily technician workloads and performance
  • Conduct performance evaluations and support technician career development
  • Manage staffing needs, including hiring, onboarding, and training
  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with company policies

Service Operations

  • Manage daily service operations, including dispatch, scheduling, and materials coordination
  • Review technician work and service documentation for quality and accuracy
  • Provide technical troubleshooting and field support to technicians
  • Optimize utilization of technicians, vehicles, tools, and other resources
  • Ensure service calls and projects are completed safely, efficiently, and professionally

Financial & Business Performance

  • Achieve departmental revenue, gross margin, and profitability targets
  • Drive revenue growth across:
    • Demand service
    • Preventative maintenance agreements
    • Service projects and retrofits
  • Maintain a 92%+ service agreement renewal rate
  • Review service profitability reports and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Monitor operational KPIs and implement corrective actions when necessary

Customer Service & Business Development

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for key customers and escalations
  • Develop solutions and recommendations for customer HVAC needs
  • Assist with estimates, quotes, repairs, and service opportunities
  • Build strong, long-term customer relationships
  • Identify opportunities to expand existing customer relationships and service offerings

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of commercial HVAC service experience
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC equipment, electronics, controls, and troubleshooting
  • 1–3 years of supervisory or management experience preferred
  • Bachelor's degree preferred, or Associate degree/technical certificate in HVAC or related field
  • Proven ability to lead technicians and manage service operations
  • Strong understanding of financial performance, productivity, and service metrics
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and service management software
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
  • Comfortable making data-driven business decisions
  • Ability to remain calm and professional during emergencies and high-pressure situations
  • Willingness to work occasional overtime, weekends, and overnight travel as business needs require

  • Ability to read HVAC schematics and technical documentation
  • Strong understanding of OSHA regulations and field safety compliance
  • Experience analyzing service KPIs, gross margins, and profitability
  • Ability to identify and implement operational improvements
  • Comfortable providing hands-on technical support to technicians when necessary
