HVAC Technician (Levels 1–4)
Location: Kalamazoo, MI
Department: Service
Full-Time
Pay Range: $28-$50hr (DOE)
Position Summary
We are seeking HVAC Technicians at all experience levels to join our commercial service team. Whether you're beginning your HVAC career or are an experienced technician ready to mentor others, we offer a clear career path with opportunities for training, advancement, and professional growth.
HVAC Technicians are responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing commercial HVAC systems. As technicians advance through Levels 1–4, they gain increased responsibility, technical expertise, customer interaction, and leadership opportunities.
Career Progression
Level 1 – HVAC Technician (Entry Level)
Ideal for individuals starting their HVAC career.
Responsibilities:
- Assist senior technicians with maintenance and repair activities
- Learn HVAC systems, tools, and company procedures
- Complete work orders and service documentation
- Maintain professional communication with customers and teammates
- Follow all safety procedures and PPE requirements
- Maintain clean work areas and company vehicles
Qualifications:
- 1+ year of HVAC schooling or related experience
- Basic mechanical aptitude
- Willingness to learn commercial HVAC systems
- Basic electrical knowledge preferred
Level 2 – HVAC Technician (Intermediate)
For technicians capable of performing most service work independently.
Responsibilities:
- Perform preventative maintenance and repairs independently
- Troubleshoot electrical components, motors, and control circuits
- Complete service reports, quotes, and documentation
- Order parts and follow up on repairs
- Conduct jobsite surveys and identify sales opportunities
- Participate in on-call rotation
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of HVAC schooling and/or field experience
- Experience with:
- Compressors
- TXVs
- Relays and contactors
- Boilers and hydronic systems
- Ability to measure:
- Refrigerant pressures
- Superheat
- Subcooling
Level 3 – HVAC Technician (Advanced)
For highly skilled technicians who independently diagnose and repair complex systems.
Responsibilities:
- Diagnose and repair advanced HVAC equipment
- Perform system startups and commissioning
- Verify system performance and operating parameters
- Coordinate workload with dispatch and management
- Provide technical guidance to junior technicians
- Maintain detailed service and startup documentation
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of combined HVAC education and field experience
- Advanced electrical, mechanical, and controls troubleshooting skills
- Experience with:
- Commercial HVAC systems
- Hydronic systems
- Airflow analysis
- Building controls
- Ability to independently perform emergency and on-call service
Level 4 – HVAC Technician (Senior/Lead)
For experienced technicians who serve as technical leaders and mentors.
Responsibilities:
- Lead complex service calls and troubleshooting efforts
- Mentor and train lower-level technicians
- Serve as a technical resource for customers and teammates
- Coordinate jobsite activities and workload prioritization
- Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and performance standards
- Drive continuous improvement in service delivery
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of advanced commercial HVAC experience
- Proven leadership and mentoring abilities
- Expertise across multiple HVAC system types
- Advanced certifications and specialized training preferred
- Strong customer relationship and communication skills
