Job Description

Mechanical Engineer – HVAC & Hydronics

We’re seeking a Mechanical Engineer with strong expertise in HVAC and hydronic systems (hot/chilled water, steam boilers, and related mechanical systems) to support industrial and commercial projects.

This role serves as a technical authority and trusted consultant, working closely with Sales, Project Managers, and field teams to assess customer needs, develop engineered solutions, and support financial and performance-based decisions. You’ll balance hands-on engineering knowledge with a collaborative, client-facing approach to deliver practical, high-value solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical consultant to clients, assessing mechanical system needs and recommending HVAC and hydronic solutions aligned with performance, constructability, and budget goals.
  • Collaborate closely with Sales and estimating teams to support pursuit strategies, conceptual designs, and solution development.
  • Lead the engineering and selection of HVAC and hydronic systems for design-build and retrofit projects.
  • Prepare and review engineered drawings, system layouts, equipment selections, and technical documentation.
  • Provide engineering guidance throughout the project lifecycle—from concept through construction and start-up.
  • Participate in client-facing technical meetings, helping translate complex engineering concepts into clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Support quality control reviews and ensure designs align with applicable mechanical codes and industry standards.
  • Mentor and collaborate with internal engineering and design staff to promote consistent, high-quality solutions.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical/HVAC engineering, with a strong focus on hydronic systems.
  • Proven experience working on commercial and industrial projects.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems, load calculations, and equipment selection.
  • Proficiency with Carrier HAP (or similar load software), AutoCAD, Revit, and Excel.
  • Experience partnering with sales, estimating, or client-facing teams to develop engineered solutions.
  • Knowledge of mechanical codes and best practices (IMC, ASHRAE, energy codes, etc.).
  • Experience with ammonia refrigeration systems is a plus.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is not required but preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
