Job Description

Position Title: Estimator

Location: Matthews, NC

Salary: $75,000-100,000/year + Benefits

Start Date: ASAP | Full-Time


Position Summary

The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive bids for commercial plumbing projects. This role includes evaluating project plans, determining material and labor costs, negotiating with vendors and subcontractors, and ensuring all estimates align with company standards. The Estimator also builds strong relationships with clients, suppliers, and internal teams while supporting overall project success and profitability.


Reporting Structure

  • Reports directly to the Senior Director of Estimating and Client Services.
  • Collaborates closely with Preconstruction, management, suppliers, subcontractors, and customers.

Experience

  • Minimum two years of commercial plumbing estimating experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical specifications, and construction documents.

Technical Skills

  • Ability to calculate material quantities, labor hours, discounts, interest, and other cost-related figures.
  • Knowledge of construction safety requirements.
  • Ability to use standard office equipment and estimating software.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review blueprints, scopes of work, and specifications to determine project requirements and costs.
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates including labor, materials, equipment rentals, subcontractors, and overhead.
  • Develop and submit complete bid packages within required deadlines.
  • Track project data and compare actual costs against estimates.
  • Maintain strong relationships with suppliers and stay informed of material pricing and lead times.
  • Request necessary permits, licenses, and bonds.
  • Ensure proper profit margins and maintain strong bid-to-award success rates.
  • Maintain historical job files for reference and improvement.
  • Provide recommendations to improve profitability and operational efficiency.
  • Uphold company values by avoiding office gossip and promoting professionalism.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by Preconstruction management.
