CAD/BIM Director

Job Summary

The CAD/BIM Director is responsible for leading the organization’s Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Computer-Aided Design (CAD) departments. This position oversees the development and implementation of BIM processes, standards, workflows, and technology integrations that improve project efficiency, accuracy, coordination, and collaboration.

The CAD/BIM Director works closely with project managers, engineers, estimators, field personnel, and senior leadership to ensure BIM and CAD technologies are effectively integrated throughout the project lifecycle.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain company-wide BIM and CAD standards, protocols, workflows, and best practices.
• Lead, manage, train, mentor, and evaluate CAD/BIM department personnel.
• Oversee the development and implementation of BIM Execution Plans for projects.
• Ensure BIM deliverables comply with client requirements, project specifications, and company standards.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, designers, estimators, and field teams to integrate BIM into project workflows.
• Manage BIM and CAD software licenses, updates, user access, and system utilization.
• Oversee model coordination, clash detection, and model review processes to identify and resolve design and installation conflicts.
• Promote innovation in digital construction technologies, model-based workflows, and construction technology.
• Prepare and present BIM progress reports, performance updates, and recommendations to senior leadership and clients.
• Ensure the accuracy, integrity, security, and proper organization of BIM models and related documentation.
• Support preconstruction and estimating teams by providing accurate model-based quantity takeoffs and project data.
• Establish performance metrics and continuously evaluate BIM/CAD processes for opportunities to improve productivity and quality.
• Coordinate with software vendors and technology partners as needed.
• Support project teams in troubleshooting BIM/CAD issues and implementing effective solutions.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Abilities

• Expert knowledge of BIM software platforms and CAD applications.
• Strong understanding of commercial construction processes, design coordination, and project delivery.
• Experience with Trimble technologies and related construction software preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and implement BIM standards and workflows.
• Strong knowledge of model coordination, clash detection, and constructability reviews.
• Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
• Ability to train and mentor technical staff at varying levels of experience.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
• Minimum of 7–10 years of experience in BIM/CAD management, coordination, or construction technology.
• Previous leadership or supervisory experience required.
• Experience working in commercial construction, engineering, architecture, or a related industry.
• Experience supporting preconstruction, estimating, project management, and field operations preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work at a computer for extended periods.
• Ability to sit, stand, walk, and communicate effectively in an office environment.
• Ability to review detailed drawings, plans, specifications, and computer models.
• Occasional travel to jobsites, company offices, client locations, and industry events may be required.

Work Environment

This position primarily works in a professional office environment and may occasionally require visits to active construction sites. Appropriate personal protective equipment must be worn when visiting jobsites.
