Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Commissioning Technician to support the startup, testing, verification, and turnover of mission-critical data center systems.
This hands-on field position will work with commissioning managers, construction teams, trade contractors, vendors, engineers, safety personnel, quality teams, and clients to verify that electrical, mechanical, controls, and life-safety systems are installed correctly, ready for testing, and operating according to approved drawings, specifications, sequences of operation, and owner requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Review commissioning plans, drawings, one-lines, P&IDs, control narratives, equipment submittals, and sequences of operation.
- Verify system readiness, including installation completion, labeling, cleanliness, access, inspections, energization status, and required documentation.
- Perform field inspections, pre-functional checks, startup activities, point-to-point checks, controls verification, and functional-performance testing.
- Support Level 1–4 commissioning and integrated systems testing.
- Assist with testing normal, emergency, failover, loss-of-power, and system-recovery scenarios.
- Record test results such as voltage, current, phase rotation, pressure, temperature, flow, alarms, setpoints, and equipment status.
- Document inspections, deficiencies, photographs, test results, and closeout evidence in CxAlloy or a similar commissioning platform.
- Track punch-list items, retesting, documentation gaps, and corrective actions through verified closure.
- Support owner walkdowns, demonstrations, training, final acceptance, and turnover.
- Coordinate testing with construction, safety, quality, vendors, operations, and affected trades.
- Identify incomplete work, design conflicts, unsafe conditions, and readiness constraints before testing begins.
- Communicate test failures, system risks, and safety concerns promptly.
Systems Supported
Depending on project assignment, you may support:
- MV/LV switchgear, transformers, switchboards, panelboards, busway, breakers, grounding, and metering
- Generators, paralleling gear, ATS/STS equipment, UPS systems, batteries, PDUs, and remote power panels
- Chillers, cooling towers, pumps, heat exchangers, CRAH/CRAC units, air handlers, valves, and hydronic systems
- BMS, EPMS, PLCs, DDC controls, sensors, actuators, alarms, trends, and networked controls
- Fire alarm interfaces, fire-suppression monitoring, emergency-power interfaces, lighting controls, and security systems
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- 3–5 years of hands-on experience in commissioning, startup, testing, electrical, mechanical, controls, maintenance, quality, or a related field
- Experience in data centers, industrial facilities, power generation, hospitals, semiconductor plants, or other mission-critical environments
- Ability to read one-lines, P&IDs, control schematics, construction drawings, equipment submittals, and sequences of operation
- Ability to safely use electrical or mechanical test instruments within assigned qualifications
- Experience with CxAlloy, Facility Grid, Autodesk Construction Cloud/BIM 360, Bluebeam, Procore, or similar platforms
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and mobile field technology
- OSHA 10 certification required before or shortly after mobilization; OSHA 30 preferred
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet project access, background, and drug-screening requirements
- Strong communication, documentation, troubleshooting, and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Hyperscale, colocation, cloud, or mission-critical data center commissioning experience
- Hands-on CxAlloy experience
