Job Description
The Assistant Controller will play a key role in overseeing day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely financial reporting. This position supports the Controller and executive team in maintaining strong internal controls, improving financial processes, and supporting decision-making across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily accounting functions including general ledger, A/R, A/P, payroll, and job cost reporting.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Support project accounting by tracking costs, billings, and margins for multiple construction projects.
- Assist in developing and monitoring budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses.
- Manage account reconciliations and ensure compliance with internal policies and external audit requirements.
- Partner with project managers and operations to ensure timely and accurate financial data flow.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation within accounting workflows.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior accounting staff.

Day in the Life
- Review project cost reports and collaborate with PMs to reconcile budgets.
- Prepare month-end journal entries and financial statements.
- Support the Controller in coordinating external audits and lender reporting.
- Work with payroll and HR to ensure accuracy of labor allocations.
- Participate in meetings to discuss project performance and strategic planning.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA preferred.
- 5+ years of accounting experience, ideally in construction, contracting, or related industries.
- Strong understanding of percentage-of-completion accounting and job cost reporting.
- Proficiency in accounting software such as Sage 300 CRE, Viewpoint Vista, or similar ERP systems.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
- Proven leadership or supervisory experience is a plus.
