Project Focus: Data Centers | Mission Critical | Electrical Safety & Energization
Why Join Us?
Join a high-performing construction team delivering complex, mission-critical facilities where electrical safety, quality, and precision are essential. The Energy Marshal plays a critical role in protecting site personnel and equipment by controlling hazardous energy, coordinating system energization, and ensuring rigorous electrical safety procedures are followed throughout construction and commissioning.
Role Overview
The Energy Marshal serves as the site authority for hazardous electrical energy control, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Energy Isolation Plans (EIPs), and safe system energization.
Working closely with construction management, electrical contractors, commissioning teams, safety professionals, and client representatives, this individual ensures electrical systems are safely transitioned through installation, testing, commissioning, and energization.
Key Responsibilities
Energy Isolation & LOTO
- Manage and enforce site-specific Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
- Review, approve, and maintain Energy Isolation Plans.
- Verify proper isolation of electrical and other hazardous energy sources before work begins.
- Control the application and removal of locks and tags according to established procedures.
- Verify zero-energy states and ensure systems are safe before releasing equipment for work.
- Maintain accurate LOTO and energy-control documentation.
Energization & Commissioning
- Coordinate planned energization of electrical systems and equipment.
- Support safe energization and commissioning of switchgear, transformers, UPS systems, generators, distribution equipment, and related infrastructure.
- Coordinate energization activities among contractors, commissioning teams, project leadership, and client representatives.
- Review pre-energization inspection requirements and verify readiness before systems become energized.
- Help manage transitions from construction-phase equipment to energized operational systems.
Electrical Safety & Compliance
- Enforce compliance with applicable NFPA 70E, OSHA, NEC, and project-specific electrical safety requirements.
- Conduct field audits of electrical work areas and energy-control practices.
- Identify unsafe conditions and ensure corrective actions are completed.
- Verify appropriate PPE, approach boundaries, barricades, signage, and access controls.
- Help prevent unauthorized personnel from entering energized or restricted electrical areas.
- Support electrical incident prevention and corrective-action programs.
Permitting & Documentation
- Review switching procedures, electrical permits, energization documentation, and inspection checklists.
- Maintain accurate records of energized systems and restricted areas.
- Verify required documentation is complete before authorizing applicable work.
- Maintain clear communication regarding changes in equipment or system energy status.
Training & Field Leadership
- Lead or participate in daily electrical safety briefings and toolbox talks.
- Communicate planned energization activities and electrical hazards to affected personnel.
- Provide technical guidance on hazardous energy control and electrical safety.
- Work collaboratively with field supervision, electricians, safety teams, commissioning personnel, and project management.
Success Metrics
- Zero preventable electrical safety incidents.
- Consistent compliance with LOTO and hazardous-energy procedures.
- Accurate and complete Energy Isolation Plans and energization documentation.
- Safe, coordinated, and timely system energizations.
- Rapid identification and correction of electrical safety deficiencies.
- Strong communication between construction, commissioning, safety, and client teams.

- Strong working knowledge of LOTO, hazardous energy control, and electrical energization procedures.
- Knowledge of medium- and/or high-voltage electrical distribution systems preferred.
- Experience with switchgear, UPS systems, generators, transformers, and electrical distribution equipment highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of NFPA 70E and OSHA electrical safety requirements.
- NFPA 70E training/certification or equivalent electrical safety training preferred.
- Ability to read electrical one-lines, drawings, switching procedures, and technical documentation.
- Strong documentation, communication, and field leadership skills.
- Ability to coordinate effectively with contractors, commissioning teams, safety personnel, project management, and client representatives.
Physical & Site Requirements
- Ability to work within active construction and mission-critical environments.
- Ability to walk construction sites for extended periods and access electrical and equipment rooms.
- Ability to climb ladders and stairs and navigate confined or restricted technical spaces when required.
- Ability to lift approximately 30+ pounds as necessary.
