Plumbing Helper
Location: Richmond, VA
Reports To: Plumbing Operations Supervisor / Foreman
Pay Range: $18.00 – $21.00 per hour
Position Summary
We are seeking a motivated and dependable Plumbing Helper to support daily warehouse and plumbing-related operations while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and productivity. This role will assist plumbers, apprentices, and supervisors with material handling, prefabrication support, and jobsite readiness.
The ideal candidate is eager to learn the plumbing trade, works well in a fast-paced construction or warehouse environment, and demonstrates a strong commitment to safety and teamwork.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Support
- Assist plumbers and supervisors with daily plumbing and warehouse activities including prefabrication, material staging, and jobsite preparation.
- Transport materials, tools, and equipment to support installation and project needs.
- Support basic plumbing tasks under supervision such as cutting pipe, assembling materials, and preparing components.
- Maintain clean and organized work areas in the shop, warehouse, and jobsites.
Quality & Continuous Improvement
- Follow established procedures and instructions to ensure quality standards are met.
- Assist with inspections of materials and prefabricated assemblies.
- Support Lean initiatives such as 5S (organization, cleanliness, and standardization).
Material & Inventory Support
- Load, unload, and move plumbing materials including pipe, fittings, valves, and fixtures.
- Assist with receiving, stocking, and organizing inventory in the warehouse.
- Ensure materials are properly staged and available to support project schedules.
- Help track tools and equipment to prevent loss and maintain accountability.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all company safety policies and OSHA regulations.
- Use proper personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Assist with maintaining a safe work environment by identifying and reporting hazards.
- Safely operate basic tools and equipment as trained.
Team Support & Development
- Work collaboratively with plumbers, apprentices, and warehouse staff.
- Take direction from supervisors and demonstrate willingness to learn.
- Participate in training and development opportunities related to plumbing practices and safety.
- Maintain a positive attitude and strong work ethic on all assignments.
Required Qualifications
- 0–2 years of experience in construction, plumbing, warehouse, or related field preferred.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn plumbing systems and tools.
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and perform physical labor in various environments.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and ability to follow instructions.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in commercial construction or plumbing environments.
- OSHA 10 certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Experience using basic hand and power tools.
