Summary

The Layout Technician performs layout activities for mechanical, electrical, and piping systems using robotic total stations and GNSS receivers. This position works closely with the QA/QC Construction Technology Manager to evaluate and implement emerging technologies that may benefit our client’s construction and design teams.

Essential Functions

• Maintain strict adherence to all of our client’s safety rules, regulations, procedures, and practices.
• Promote our client’s “Courage to Care” message and serve as a positive example of safe work practices.

Layout

• Mark jobsite locations for underground services to be installed by the groundwork crew.
• Perform point layout on jobsites using robotic total stations to support the installation of anchors, sleeves, and other components.
• Complete production verification of installed systems when required.
• Stay current with emerging technologies and review potential applications with the QA/QC Construction Technology Manager.

Deliverables and Documentation

• Upload CSV files containing staked points to Dropbox for quality-control and as-built requirements.
• Update marked-up PDFs showing installed ductwork, piping, equipment, and other systems, and upload them to Dropbox for use in updating Liquid Cloud and Power BI.

Requirements

• Possess prior experience working on a commercial construction site.
• Ability to review and understand contract drawings, shop drawings, and 3D models.
• Demonstrate proficiency with construction software, including Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, Field Link, and HCL.
• Ability to quickly learn and effectively use new technologies, including robotic total stations and GNSS receivers.
• Possess a high school diploma; a journeyman’s license is a plus.
• Ability to coordinate effectively with others and complete tasks in a timely manner.
• Ability to analyze data and combine information to reach accurate conclusions.
• Possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently with limited direct supervision.
• Ability to maintain a sense of urgency and remain calm when handling emergencies.
