Travel: Approximately 80% domestic and international


The Opportunity

We’re looking for a hands-on, technically skilled Field Service Technician II who enjoys solving problems in the field, working directly with customers, and supporting complex mechanical and electrical systems.

This role provides field support throughout commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, repair, and retrofit activities. With approximately 80% domestic and international travel, this is an opportunity for someone who is comfortable working independently, adapting to changing project conditions, and supporting equipment from construction through final commissioning and turnover.

Position Overview

The Field Service Technician II provides field support to clients through the commissioning, troubleshooting, repair, and retrofit of mechanical and electrical systems. The role also supports troubleshooting of controls, communications, computers, and related equipment while ensuring field activities are properly documented.

The technician works closely with Quality, Project Engineers, Project Managers, Process Engineers, Production, Engineering, Field Engineers, Field Service Technicians, client personnel, and consulting engineers throughout the project lifecycle.

Additional responsibilities include supporting Quality Assurance and Quality Control requirements, compiling and communicating Operations & Maintenance information, assisting with final IOM documentation, coordinating project handoff, and supporting mechanical and electrical commissioning activities.

The Field Service Technician II reports to the Customer Service Manager and works closely with Project Management, Production, Quality, Engineering, and customer teams.

Cross-training in controls and electrical systems is required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Commission, troubleshoot, repair, and retrofit mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical equipment, controls, communications, computers, and related systems.
  • Direct and support field commissioning activities.
  • Provide documented commissioning of mechanical and electrical portions of assigned projects.
  • Support commissioning of the mechanical portion of the project.
  • Coordinate the timely handoff of projects from construction to operations.
  • Compile Operations & Maintenance (O&M) information.
  • Communicate critical O&M information throughout the design and construction phases.
  • Assist with the preparation of final Installation, Operation & Maintenance (IOM) manuals.
  • Create accurate and legible red-line drawings for Project Management.
  • Provide field feedback to Engineering, Quality, Production, and Project Management teams.
  • Support Quality Assurance and Quality Control activities for completed equipment.
  • Perform or oversee QC inspections as required.
  • Work closely with Project Engineers, Project Managers, mechanical and electrical engineers, Field Engineers, service technicians, and client personnel.
  • Assist Production with equipment assembly and factory personnel training as needed.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by leadership.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting abilities.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Exposure to at least one PLC or building controls platform.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Project.
  • Ability to work independently at customer and project sites.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with customers, engineers, technicians, contractors, and project leadership.

Education & Training

  • HVAC trade school and/or apprenticeship training preferred.
  • Relevant military technical training or comparable technical work experience may be considered in place of trade school certification.

Minimum Requirements

  • Significant field experience in construction support, startup, repair, and maintenance.
  • Experience verifying compliance with ASHRAE, ASME, and other applicable codes and industry practices.
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively to domestic and international job sites.
  • Ability to work safely and effectively in active field construction environments.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain applicable safety certifications, including:
    • OSHA 10 General Construction
    • NFPA 70E
    • Other project-specific safety certifications as required
  • Safe driving record.
  • Willingness to cross-train in controls and electrical systems.

Travel & Work Environment

This position requires approximately 80% domestic and international travel. Work is performed at customer facilities, active construction sites, manufacturing facilities, and other field locations.

Candidates should be comfortable working independently, adapting to changing project conditions, and supporting customers in a variety of field environments.

Physical Requirements

The position requires the ability to:

  • Occasionally exert up to 10 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects.
  • Sit, stoop, bend, crouch, and perform repetitive motions.
  • Regularly use hands and fingers to operate tools, equipment, and computers.
  • Communicate effectively through speaking and hearing.
  • Maintain the color perception, depth perception, field of vision, and visual acuity necessary to review drawings, analyze data, operate computers, inspect equipment, and perform extensive reading.

The position may also involve work in indoor environmental conditions.
