Director of Sales & Marketing (Estimating) – Structural Steel

Location: St. Louis, MO (Onsite)

Compensation: Up to $180K + Relocation Assistance

Position Summary

We’re partnering with a 100+ year leader in structural steel fabrication to bring on a Director of Sales & Marketing / Estimating—a high-impact leadership role responsible for driving revenue, leading estimating strategy, and winning profitable work.

This role owns the full project acquisition lifecycle—from identifying opportunities and building client relationships to leading estimating efforts and securing awarded contracts. You’ll sit at the intersection of sales, strategy, and execution, directly impacting company growth and profitability.


Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy

  • Lead and scale the estimating and sales function, including team oversight
  • Establish processes, workflows, and standards for bid management
  • Partner with executive leadership on growth strategy and market positioning
  • Drive initiatives to increase win rates and revenue growth

Estimating Oversight

  • Oversee all estimates for accuracy, completeness, and profitability
  • Review drawings, specs, and bid packages to identify scope and risk
  • Ensure competitive pricing while maintaining margin targets
  • Implement best practices for takeoffs and cost analysis

Sales & Business Development

  • Build and maintain relationships with GCs, developers, and key clients
  • Identify and pursue high-value project opportunities
  • Lead presentations, client meetings, and pre-bid discussions
  • Drive conversion from bid to awarded work

Financial Performance

  • Own bid-level financial strategy, including margins and cost assumptions
  • Lead value engineering efforts to improve competitiveness
  • Monitor market trends, material pricing, and labor costs

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with project management, production, and operations
  • Ensure seamless handoff from awarded work to execution teams
  • Provide leadership across departments to align on company goals

Required Qualifications

  • 8–15+ years in structural steel estimating, sales, or construction leadership
  • Proven track record of winning work and driving revenue growth
  • Strong knowledge of steel fabrication, detailing, and erection
  • Experience leading estimating and/or sales teams
  • Deep understanding of construction drawings, specs, and bid processes
  • Strong financial acumen (pricing strategy, margins, cost control)
  • Bachelor’s degree (MBA or advanced degree a plus)
