Mechanical Estimator – Preconstruction / Conceptual

Location: Chandler/ Phoenix, AZ (Metro Area)

We’re looking for a Mechanical Estimator to support early-stage project development for complex mechanical construction projects. This role is a key driver in preconstruction strategy, responsible for developing accurate conceptual and budgetary estimates before drawings are fully developed. In short—you help determine what projects move forward and how they’re won.

What You’ll Do

• Prepare conceptual and preconstruction estimates for mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, piping, and sheet metal systems.
• Analyze limited design documents including narratives, schematics, conceptual drawings, and historical cost data.
• Partner closely with business development, preconstruction, engineering, and operations teams.
• Identify scope gaps, assumptions, risks, and cost drivers; clearly document exclusions and clarifications.
• Support value engineering efforts and evaluate alternate system approaches.
• Maintain and utilize historical cost data to improve estimating accuracy.
• Develop pricing using estimating software and Excel-based tools.
• Assist with proposal development and preconstruction presentations as needed.

What We’re Looking For

• 5+ years of estimating experience in mechanical construction (HVAC, plumbing, piping, or sheet metal).
• Strong understanding of conceptual estimating and preconstruction workflows.
• Working knowledge of local and national mechanical codes and standards.
• Experience with estimating software such as Quick Pen, TSI, or similar platforms.
• High comfort level working with ambiguity and making informed assumptions.
• Strong communication skills and a business-focused mindset.
